Richard Kayne - Chairman and Founder

Mr. Kayne is the founder and chairman of Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors, a Los Angeles-based manager of alternative investment strategies.  The firm serves a distinguished client list of institutions, endowments, foundations, family offices and high net worth individuals, managing over $13.4 billion in assets. 

Mr. Kayne founded Kayne Anderson in 1984, and has grown the firm through a disciplined, personal investment philosophy that emphasizes niche opportunities with attractive return expectations and lower risk characteristics.  Mr. Kayne and the firm have long shared the importance of deploying knowledge and sourcing advantages as part of this philosophy.

Today, the firm is one of the premier alternative asset managers specializing in oil and gas, energy infrastructure, credit, specialty real estate, growth private equity and marketable securities.  Recognized as the industry leader in energy infrastructure investments, the firm is the largest investor in energy pipelines in the United States.
 
In addition to co-founding Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors, Mr. Kayne founded Kayne Anderson Rudnick, a traditional investment management firm.  Mr. Kayne grew that firm to over $10 billion in assets under management and sold it in 2001 to the Phoenix Companies. 

Mr. Kayne is a trustee of and the former chairman of the Investment Committee of the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Foundation and is a trustee of and former co-chairman of the Investment Committee of the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles. 

He began his career in the mid-1960s as an analyst with Loeb, Rhodes & Co. in New York and was a principal of Cantor Fitzgerald & Co., Inc., where he managed private accounts, a hedge fund and a portion of firm capital. 

Mr. Kayne earned a B.S. in Statistics from Stanford University in 1966 and an M.B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1968.

Robert Sinnott - President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Sinnott is president and chief executive officer of Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors , co-manages the firm's $3.0 billion energy private equity activities, which include the origination and execution of private investments in the oil and gas, oil field services and infrastructure industries and chairs Kayne Anderson's investment committees. Immediately prior to joining Kayne Anderson, Mr. Sinnott was a member of Citibank's LBO Swat team for the energy and airline spaces and led its syndication activities in Southern California.  Mr. Sinnott and five others opened Bank of America's energy lending activities in Houston in 1976 and was a member of the finance team for a large diversified pipeline company from 1981 to 1986.

Mr. Sinnott earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia in 1971 and an M.B.A. in Finance from the Harvard Business School in 1976, after serving three years aboard the U.S.S. Forrestal as a lieutenant j.g. Mr. Sinnott is a director of several energy companies including Plains All American Pipeline, L.P., a large publicly traded MLP.

He also is a member of the board of visitors of UCLA's Anderson School of Management and Board of Overseers (Athletics) for the University of Pennsylvania.

Edward Cerny - Managing Partner, Mezzanine Finance

Edward Cerny is a managing partner of the firm's mezzanine financing activities.

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson, Mr. Cerny was a Managing Director of Blackstone's Corporate Debt Group, where he was involved in originating, evaluating, executing and monitoring mezzanine finance and related transactions across a broad range of industries. Mr. Cerny managed relationships with a broad set of financial sponsors and financial intermediaries, and served as an observer to the Boards of Directors of many of his portfolio companies. Before joining Blackstone in 2002, Mr. Cerny worked in the Leveraged Finance and Financial Sponsors groups of UBS. He began his career in the Merchant Banking Group at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.

Mr. Cerny received a BA from Pomona College, where he graduated with honors and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, as well as a JD and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Richard Farber - Managing Partner, Marketable Securities

Mr. Farber is a managing partner for the firm's marketable securities activities. He is responsible for trading and hedging, as well as the arbitrage, high-yield and closed-end fund strategies.

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 1995, Mr. Farber was vice president of Lehman Brothers' Commodity Risk Management Group from 1990 to 1994, specializing in energy trading and hedging. He also worked at Lehman Brothers as an institutional equity trader from 1988 to 1990. From 1985 to 1986, Mr. Farber was employed by Salomon Brothers, Inc. as a mortgage bond analyst.

Mr. Farber earned a B.A. in Economics from Franklin and Marshall College in 1982 and an M.B.A. in Finance from the UCLA Anderson School of Management in 1988.

J.C. Frey - Managing Partner, Marketable Securities and Public Funds

J.C. Frey joined Kayne Anderson in 1997, initially as controller of Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors and its former affiliate, Kayne Anderson Rudnick Investment Management. He assumed the additional responsibility of providing research coverage of a group of REIT and finance companies, some of with which he had prior audit experience while at KPMG Peat Marwick. He became a dedicated research analyst for Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors in 1998, responsible for high yield debt, REITs, and MLPs. In 2000, he became co-portfolio manager of the firm's newly launched multi-strategy fund, KACIP. Since 2003, he has managed KAMLP, a dedicated MLP investment partnership, one of the earliest of its kind. Since 2005, he has managed KAMEF, an offshore fund that was among the first to use total return swaps on MLPs.

In 2004, Mr. Frey was instrumental in the creation and initial public offering of Kayne Anderson MLP Investment Company (NYSE: KYN), an MLP-focused closed-end fund which is the largest publicly traded fund of its kind. He is an officer and co-portfolio manager responsible for public investments for KYN, as well as Kayne Anderson Energy Total Return Fund (NYSE: KYE), Kayne Anderson Energy Development Company (NYSE: KED) and Kayne Anderson Midstream/Energy Fund (NYSE: KMF), public funds which he helped create in 2005, 2006 and 2010 respectively.

Including the funds named above and others, Mr. Frey oversees nearly $8 billion in assets consisting of MLPs, energy debt, marine transportation and other energy equities. Several of the funds managed by Mr. Frey were nominated as finalists for the MarHedge Annual US Performance awards in 2005 and 2006, as well as a regular BarclayHedge monthly performance award winner. He has been quoted in numerous publications including Oil & Gas Investor, Workboat Magazine, MarketWatch.com, Money Central.com, Entrepreneur Magazine, and Research Magazine, and contributed a chapter to Hedge Fund of Funds Investing by Joe Nicholas, Chairman and CEO of HFR Group LLC.

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 1997, Mr. Frey was an audit manager in KPMG Peat Marwick's financial services group, specializing in banking and finance clients, and loan securitizations. Mr. Frey is a Certified Public Accountant. He earned a B.S. in Accounting from Loyola Marymount University in 1990 and a Master of Taxation from the University of Southern California in 1991.

Kevin McCarthy - Managing Partner, Public Funds

Mr. McCarthy is a managing partner for Kayne Anderson Fund Advisors. He is responsible for master limited partnership private equity investments and serves as chairman, president, and chief executive officer of the Kayne Anderson MLP Investment Company (KYN), Kayne Anderson Energy Total Return Fund (KYE), and Kayne Anderson Energy Development Company (KED).

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 2004, Mr. McCarthy was most recently global head of energy at UBS Securities LLC. In this role, he had senior responsibility for all of UBS' energy investment banking activities, including direct responsibilities for securities underwriting and mergers and acquisitions in the MLP industry. From 1995 to 2000, Mr. McCarthy led the energy investment banking activities of Dean Witter Reynolds and then PaineWebber Incorporated. He began his investment banking career in 1984.

Mr. McCarthy earned a B.A. in Economics and Geology from Amherst College in 1981 and an M.B.A. in Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1984.

David Petrucco - Managing Partner, Mezzanine Finance

David Petrucco is a managing partner of the firm's mezzanine financing activities.

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson, Mr. Petrucco was a Managing Director of Blackstone's Corporate Debt Group. Mr. Petrucco managed relationships with a number of financial sponsors, corporate and investment banks, alternative asset managers and other financial intermediaries. He was primarily responsible for sourcing mezzanine opportunities. Prior to joining Blackstone, Mr. Petrucco was a Managing Director of RBS Securities in New York City, where he worked for four years as the head of the leveraged loan, high yield bond, and mezzanine securities distribution group. Mr. Petrucco was the first hire in this group and was responsible for the construction of these businesses and also for all leveraged underwritings in North America. Before joining RBS, Mr. Petrucco spent 10 years at UBS Securities, in both the US and UK. At UBS he spent the first five years as a banker in the Financial Institutions Group and the last five years as a senior member of the leveraged loan high yield bond and mezzanine capital market and distributions teams. Virtually all of the leveraged activities at UBS were focused on the middle market. During his career, Mr. Petrucco has executed more than $30 billion worth of leveraged and structured financings.

Mr. Petrucco spent the first two years of his career at Manufacturers Hanover Trust as a credit analyst in the Private Client Group. Mr. Petrucco received a B.A. in Economics from Boston College.

Terrence Quinn - Managing Partner, Client Relations and New Business Development

Mr. Quinn is a managing partner for Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors and is responsible for managing new business opportunities and client relations.

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson, Mr. Quinn was a founding partner of a merchant banking firm specializing in private equity and advisory services. He was president and CEO of five operating companies and member of the executive committee of a leading regional bank. Mr. Quinn was manager of pensions and investments for the 3M Company and founding CEO of a leading mezzanine fund group. Mr. Quinn has served on the boards of several public and private firms. He is a member of the Los Angeles WPO. Mr. Quinn earned a B.A. in Economics in 1973 and an M.B.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1974.

Albert Rabil III - Managing Partner, Real Estate Private Equity

Al Rabil is a managing partner of the firm's real estate private equity activities, where he oversees the origination, execution and management of private investments in various specialized niche real estate sectors.

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 2007, Mr. Rabil founded, and was a principal of, two real estate investment firms, RAMZ, LLC and Rabil Properties, between 2002 and 2007. During this time Mr. Rabil developed and acquired more than $250 million of student housing projects. In 1994, Mr. Rabil joined the Real Estate Banking Group of UBS, and later became head of the Real Estate Banking Group for the Americas and Europe until early 2002. In this period, he made UBS a market leader in syndicated debt and large loan CMBS, with over $25 billion in completed transactions.

Mr. Rabil earned a B.A. from Yale University in 1985 and an M.B.A. in Finance from Columbia University in 1988.

David Walsh - Managing Partner, Growth Private Equity

Mr. Walsh is a managing partner for Kayne Anderson Capital Advisor's growth private equity activities. Beyond his time engaged with Kayne Anderson, Mr. Walsh has successfully started, acquired and turned around technology and telecommunications companies for over 20 years. After four years in corporate finance at Ernst & Young, in 1988 he became a partner in the buyout fund Maiden Lane Associates. In 1991, Mr. Walsh acquired a bankrupt technology company, Card*Tel Inc., and later sold the company to Transaction Network Services, Inc. at a ten times return for shareholders. Mr. Walsh continued to develop the business for TNS until 1999, when TNS was acquired by PSINet. Mr. Walsh then started FortuneLinX, a provider of real-time revenue assurance systems to the telecommunications sector, which was acquired two years later. Mr. Walsh currently serves on the Board of Directors of Learn.com, a KAPI portfolio company, as well as The Walking Company, Inc. and Sage Publications, Inc.

Mr. Walsh graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York at Geneseo and obtained his MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Daniel Weingeist - Managing Partner, Energy Funds

Mr. Weingeist is a managing partner for the Kayne Anderson Capital Advisor's energy private equity activities. He focuses on identifying investment opportunities as part of Kayne Anderson's emphasis on energy transactions.

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 1999, Mr. Weingeist was a managing director and principal of Torch Energy Advisors, a Houston-based company that provides capital to the industry as well as specialized outsourcing services, including accounting and financial services, and oil and gas operations. Prior to that, he served as vice president with EnCap Investments and as a reservoir engineer at Exxon Company U.S.A.

Mr. Weingeist earned a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering in 1985 and an M.B.A. in 1989 from the University of Texas at Austin.

Paul Blank - Managing Director

Paul Blank is the managing director for strategic planning and public affairs at Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors.

Prior to re-joining Kayne Anderson, Mr. Blank was a partner at the award-winning multi-media firm Joe Trippi & Associates where he provided senior strategic counsel, media relations and campaign management to corporations, non-profits, unions and politicians worldwide.  He helped pioneer the use of cutting-edge technologies in communications campaigns and served in leadership positions on two Presidential campaigns and as a senior adviser to Gov. Jerry Brown's successful 2010 gubernatorial election.  Early on, Mr. Blank worked at Kayne Anderson as a junior analyst.

Mr. Blank graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science from Duke University and is a cum laude graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy.

David Shladovsky - General Counsel

Mr. Shladovsky is general counsel of Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors and serves as secretary and chief compliance officer of Kayne Anderson MLP Investment Company (KYN), Kayne Anderson Energy Total Return Fund (KYE), and Kayne Anderson Energy Development Company (KED).

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 1997, Mr. Shladovsky was in the private practice of corporate and securities law, most recently as corporate counsel to Hughes Hubbard & Reed, LLP.

Mr. Shladovsky earned a B.A. in Economics from Brandeis University and a J.D. from the Boston University School of Law in 1985, where he served as a member of the Boston University Law Review. He has been a member of the California Bar Association since 1985.

Katharine Hall - Associate General Counsel

Katharine Hall is associate general counsel of Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors. Prior to joining Kayne Anderson, Ms. Hall practiced corporate law at the firm Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, where she focused on mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and private equity investments.

Ms. Hall earned a B.S. in Mathematical and Computational Sciences from Stanford University, an M.S. in Statistics from Stanford University, and a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2005.

Michael O’Neil - Chief Compliance Officer

Michael O'Neil is the chief compliance officer of Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors.  Prior to joining Kayne Anderson, Mr. O'Neil was a compliance officer at BlackRock Inc., where he was responsible for regulatory compliance matters related to trading and portfolio management activities across equity, fixed income and alternative assets.

Mr. O'Neil earned a B.A. in International Business and Management from Dickinson College and an M.B.A. from Boston University.

Evan Ben-Ner, CFA - Trading Operations Manager

Evan Ben-Ner is trading operations manager for Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors.  Prior to joining Kayne Anderson, Mr. Ben-Ner was one of the founding partners of Bay Mutual Financial, LLC, a FINRA member broker-dealer focused on providing wealth management, brokerage services, and retirement plan consulting.  During his seven years at Bay Mutual, he served as Chief Compliance Officer, Operations Manager, and Financial and Operations Principal.

From 1996-1999, he served as Head of Wrap-Fee Trading and Assistant Portfolio Manager for Roxbury Capital Management, a mid-size investment manager specializing in large and mid-cap growth investments.

Mr. Ben-Ner earned an M.B.A. from the NYU Stern School of Business in 2003 and a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1992.  He is a CFA charterholder and maintains ten securities registrations (FINRA Series 4, 7, 24, 27, 53, 55, 63, 65, 79, and 99).

Paul Stapleton, CPA - Chief Financial Officer

Paul Stapleton is chief financial officer for Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors. He is responsible for investment accounting, partnership tax reporting and financial analysis of the firms alternative investment partnerships and associated operating entities.

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 2004 as controller, Mr. Stapleton was Vice President of Alternative Investment financial services at Mellon Financial and Trust Company of the West.

Mr. Stapleton earned a B.S. in Accounting from Loyola Marymount University in 1994 and an M.B.A. from the UCLA Anderson School of Management in 2002. Mr. Stapleton is a Certified Public Accountant.

Daniel Barakat, CPA - Controller

Mr. Barakat is a controller for Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors. He is responsible for the investment accounting, financial statement preparation, and tax reporting for Kayne's private equity and offshore funds.

Prior to joining Kayne in 2006, Mr. Barakat was an account manager in the hedge fund administration group at BISYS Hedge Fund Services in Bermuda.

Mr. Barakat earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of British Columbia in 1996, and he is a Certified Public Accountant.

Mark Morski, CPA, CFA - Controller

Mr. Morski is a controller for Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors, L.P. He is responsible for the investment accounting, financial statement preparation, and tax reporting for five of Kayne Anderson's domestic hedge funds.

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 2005, Mr. Morski was the operations manager for Transamerica Investment Management, LLC.

Mr. Morski earned a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from the University of California Los Angeles in 1979, and an M.B.A. from University of Southern California in 1981.

He is a Certified Public Accountant and a CFA charterholder.

Jeremy Schwartz is a vice president of finance for Kayne Anderson Capital Advisor's mezzanine financing and growth private equity activities.

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 2009, he was the Chief Executive Officer at DVS InteleStream, a media services provider and one of his former portfolio companies. Prior to DVS, Mr. Schwartz was a Principal at Allied Capital Corporation from 2005 to 2008 where he was responsible for leading middle market related debt and equity investments. Prior to Allied Capital, Mr. Schwartz held investment positions where he was similarly focused on middle market investing at Gryphon Investors, Bain Capital and Trust Company of the West. Mr. Schwartz began his career as a management consultant for Bain & Company.

Mr. Schwartz graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Economics.

Noriko Zaw, CPA - Controller

Noriko Zaw is a controller for Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors.  She is responsible for the accounting, financial statement preparation, financial operation and analysis for Kayne Anderson and associated operating entities. 

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 2004, Ms. Zaw worked at Rothstein Kass where she led an audit team in the financial services group, specializing in hedge fund and private equity fund clients. 

Ms. Zaw earned a B.S. in Accountancy from California State University, Northridge in 2000.  She is a Certified Public Accountant and a registered representative of broker dealer affiliate KA Associates, Inc.

Scott Keys, CPA - Chief Administrative Officer

Mr. Keys is chief administrative officer for Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors. He is responsible for managing all facets of Firm administration.

Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 2009, Mr. Keys served as the CFO of Indymac Bank from 2002 to April 2008. Mr. Keys was also with Ernst & Young LLP from 1986 to 2001, including four years as an audit partner specializing in the financial services industry.

Mr. Keys earned a B.S. in Accounting from Loyola Marymount University in 1986. Mr. Keys is a Certified Public Accountant.

Felice Rosen - Director of Human Resources

Felice Rosen is Director of Human Resources for Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors. Ms. Rosen has managed human resources in the investment industry for approximately 20 years. Before joining Kayne Anderson in 1999, Ms. Rosen was the Director of Human Resources at Koffler & Company and Human Resource manager for Smith Barney's Los Angeles Investment Banking office. Ms. Rosen began her management career at Sutro & Co. She attended City University of New York and California State University, Northridge.

Carol Lam, CPA - Director of Marketing Operations

Carol Lam is the director of marketing operations for Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors.  She is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and overseeing policies and procedures related to investor services and the contact management system.

Ms. Lam was previously a controller in the accounting department prior to joining marketing operations.   She managed the investment accounting, financial statement and audit preparation, and investor reporting for the hedge funds and three private equity funds. Ms. Lam has four years of accounting experience prior to joining Kayne Capital in 2004.

Ms. Lam earned a B.S. in Accountancy from California State University, Northridge in 2000. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of California and is a member of American Institute of CPAs (AICPA).

Mr. Anderson was a co-founder of Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors.

Mr. Anderson, for whom the UCLA Anderson School of Management at the University of California at Los Angeles is named, was a successful attorney, entrepreneur, and investor in financial services businesses.

Mr. Anderson earned a B.S. from the University of California, Los Angeles, an M.B.A. from Harvard University, and a J.D. from the Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, the graduate school of law for Loyola Marymount University.
